Making Strides in Mind-Body Fitness
The Tamara Di Tella Method (tangolates) bridges the gap between the mind-body and aerobic methods. It is one of the most innovative contributions both to cardio as well as to pilates, yoga and others. Its partner routines are a significant contribution as well.

THE NEW METHOD OF TAMARA DI TELLA® (Tangolates®) combines the concentration and coordination that is inherent to Tango, with the posture and core stability of mind-body methods, such as Pilates or Yoga. As an extra bonus, it adds the cardio element!

The new Tamara Di Tella Method (Tangolates) maintains the basic mind-body principles of mind-body-methods such as Pilates, but adds the cardio element that is so important for burning calories and reducing inches.

The Tamara Di Tella Method--also called Tangolates-- adds cardio to stretching and balance exercises, sucha as Yoga or Pilates. It tones, it reliefs tension and, because of its aerobic characteristic, it increases blood flow and circulation.

Tamara Di Tella runs a Pilates Certification Training Program at a public hospital where her company donated a Rehab Room. Tamara is the international president of some fifty-plus chain of franchised Pilates & Tangolates Studios around the globe, from the United States to Germany, from Philippines to Italy, from Mexico to Australia.

From the person who brought you the chain of franchised Pilates Studios: now comes The Tamara Di Tella Method (Tangolates). You get cardio, stretching and deep muscle strengthening, plus you’ll burn calories and lose weight!

CHANGING TIMES...
(By Tamara Di Tella)

“For the times…they are-a-changing…” sang Bob Dylan in the late sixties. And they are. Today we know that innovation is the name of the game and that the person who resists change stays behind. Take, for example, the case of Pilates.

With the discovery of the growth hormone, we learned that strength (or resistance) is more important that what Joseph Pilates believed in his time. We also know now that we keep on burning calories even during relaxation time because our metabolism keeps working and using energy even while we stay still. This, Pilates did not know. For him, anybody who remained still for a while to recover was plain lazy.

Pilates believed that the spine should always be perfectly straight. Today we know that our spine has natural curves that we ought to take into account. As I said, Bob Dylan was right, “the times…they are-a-changing…”

THE DI TELLA: WHAT ELSE CAN YOU HOPE FOR?
(By Tamara Di Tella)

It is safe. It is versatile. It is light. It is functional and it has many accessories to play with. Which ones? It has got four short bars and four long bars. Its’ also got two platforms that together make a floor to work on a mat, and separate become the equivalent of two steps.

It’s got a tall arch that resembles and football goal and whose horizontal bar allows for sliding movements pretty much like the ones used by ballerinas in dance schools.

For resistance workouts, this apparatus’s has got elastic bands which are attached to the base with something that looks like a safety belt and that is removable.

It also has a short arch on which you can perform classic min-body exercises of Yoga and Pilates exercises and even traditional exercises such a push ups, triceps or the swan. Finally, it’s got four hurdles which are used to perform even more aerobic movements. All that. O.K, now we can move on.

Of all the traditional DI TELLA Apparatus exercises, the ones below are my favorite!

WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT
(By Tamara Di Tella)

Why should you do exercise to the tune of music that has been around for more than a hundred years? Why resort to techniques and songs of our predecessors?

Let me try an answer: because it works. Because it has been around for such a long time that we would have noticed if it was not good. Like I said in another book of mine: if your mother and your grandmother recommends it, the method is good.

If you have trouble toning your abs, slimming your waist line, straighten your posture; if you just don’t feel like the sexy person you wish you were, if what you need is a bit of self-confidence and poise in your daily life attitude, then the my method Tangolates is the solution. You will emerge from a class o mine with an enhanced self-esteem. Even if you are not tall, you will walk tall; even if you are not slim, you will look slim.

There is nothing like Tangolates to give you an elegant poise. But that is not all, these exercises will immediately do away with Ms. flabby; it will give you toned legs and firm buttocks, a slender and sculpted figure, and a whole new attitude everybody will admire.

PLUS CA CHANGE
(By Tamara Di Tella)

Both my Tangolates and Pilates are systems of mind-body, core control exercises but the differences are obvious: The first one, Tangolates, is performed with music, Pilates is silent.

My method can be performed by two people (it takes two to Tangolates!), while the other one, Pilates, is performed individually.

My method is a concentrated and aerobic workout; the other, Pilates, is concentrated but not very aerobic. Mine is performed on an apparatus called the DITELLA®, while the other, Pilates, is performed on an entirely different machine, called “The Reformer”. So, there you have the differences.

CARDIO BURNS CALORIES
(By Tamara Di Tella)

“Do you know what to expect from combining Tango and Pilates?”, I asked my students one summer afternoon back in the year 2004.

Today, the answer would be obvious (Tangolates), but then an explanation was necessary: “From a fusion of Tango with Pilates you get a more complete, cardio-oriented method of mind-body exercises”.

O.K., we know by now that performing this method will give you a natural balance and improve your posture; it will teach you to hold your “center” and to grow tall.

All this is true but, the most important extra bonus is the cardio or aerobic element it contributes, because, let’s be realistic, music always brings in the aerobic element that is so necessary…

BRIDGING THE GAP
Making Strides in Mind-Body Fitness

“Tamara Di Tella’s Method (Tangolates) is one of the few truly inspired innovations to mind-body methods. It combines the concentration, coordination and cardio of Tango with the core stability that is inherent to mind-body methods”
Paul Anthony Mc Linden, Body Control Pilates, London, England

“It’s irresistibly attractive” Sting, International rock author and singer

“Its a mind-body method that burns calories!”

The Tamara Di Tella Method

The Tamara Di Tella Method (Tangolates) started off as an attempt to bridge the gap between Mind-and-Body and Cardio methods.

State of the Art
For many years mind-body and cardio methods have stood apart from each other. On the one hand, the international fitness markets witnessed the emergence and consolidation of mind-body methods. On the other hand, cardiovascular techniques continued shining like big stars in the fitness firmament.

Control versus Cardio
Both methods, mind-body, on the one hand, and cardio, on the other, coexisted peacefully, each one in their own different world. One, mind-body, stands for concentration, balance, the alignment of the column, and toning deep muscles slowly and in a controlled manner.

Focused like no other, mind-body often looked like meditation rather than a fitness regimen. With its emphasis on breathing and slow and coordinated flowing movement, this method appealed mainly to 35-plus women.

Advocates of mind-body methods claim that their exercises and routines are safer and that they would never hurt joints and ligaments.

Examples of mind-body methods are, among others:
* Yoga
* Tai Chi
* Pilates
* Chi Qong

At the other end of the spectrum are the aerobic or cardio vascular methods. Emphasizing heart-beat their goal was to increase blood circulation flow and to raise the pulsations of the heart. Cardio methods appeal to younger men and women who seek to build muscle and burn calories.

Examples of cardio methods are, among others:
* Marathon running
* Step
* In-door cycling

Advocates of cardio claim that aerobics is one of the three essential ingredients of any physical activity, and that without the aerobic part a fitness regimen is not complete.

So…Cardio or mind-body. Mind-body or cardio. Between one and the other there’s always been a wide gap.

Bridging the Gap
Paraphrasing Aristotle, Tamara Di Tella has published that “the truth stands somewhere in the middle”.

Cardio could use some core controlled, concentrated moves, and mind-body may do well in incorporating some cardio to its routines.

The Tamara Di Tella Method (Tangolates) seeks to bridge the gap between these two worlds. On the basis of mind-body principles, it adds the aerobic element. How? Simple, by incorporating the music choreographies!

Tango Music and Dance
For those who are not familiar with it, Tango is a highly concentrated, controlled and coordinated type of music and dance. Above all, Tango is about posture and balance. Tango is so concentrated that partners often dance with their eyes closed. These are all basic principles associated to mind-body methods, like Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, Chi Qong and others.

The first cue for Tango students reminds us of Joseph Pilates famous phrase: “rigid the core, only the legs move!”. In Tango, all movement starts at the core and then it flows outwards.

But, like any dance, Tango is about flowing movement. Tango is aerobic by definition.

Different, Distinctive and Unique
The organic and systematized combination of mind-body with cardio represents something entirely new. It’s a new method in its own right. We are talking about 1000 plus concentrated movements perfectly choreographed to Tango music. The end result is a highly cardio, yet concentrated workout.

The Wave of the Future
Some experts, like Jason Thomas, say that the Tamara Di Tella Method is the wave of the future. Some, like British Paul Anthony Mc Linden, have stated that it will take Europe and the United States by storm. But this is not the point. The point is that a new method has been born and that it promises to bridge the gap between two methods that have so far remained apart.

After the aerobic thesis came the mind-body anti-thesis; and after that came the synthesis which is the combination of both in a new method based that takes the best of both worlds.

What is it?
The Tamara Di Tella Method (Tangolates) is a new and revolutionary method of conscious exercises. It combines the concentration, coordination and posture of Tango with the core control and balance of mind-body methods. Plus, it’s got extra bonus of cardio!!

Are You Ready?
So, are you ready? Are you ready to add cardio to mind-body? Are you ready to add mind-body to cardio? Are you willing to bridge the gap?

EQUIPMENT (II)

Eight of the top 10 pieces of most frequently used equipment are small and transportable. Only 1 of the top 10 pieces of most frequently used are stackable. This preference for portable and stackable predominate among Pilates and other type of fitness professional instructors. This preference surely reflect the reality, that is, 52% offer personal training in clients' homes; and 25% offer personal train¬ing in their own home studio. This is the reason why they prefer small, functional, portable and stackable equipment such as the DI TELLA® Apparatus to perform the Method of Tamara Di Tella Tangolates.

Tango Pilates shares Principles with Pilates

Hello, I wanted to comment something on my Pilates Class. First of all, let me tell you that I am new at it; second, let me tell you that Pilates is a passion for me; and third, let me assure you, from the bottom of my heart that Tango Pilates changed my life!. I am into core control, concentration and posture. I really believe that these are very important concepts that Joseph Pilates has contributed to the fitness world. Well, Now I can tell you that when I think if these fundamental concepts I associate them with Tango. I was enquiring and found out that Tango shares with Pilates not only these basic concepts or principles, but much more: it shares the flowing movement, the strengthening of the pelvic floor; the mind-over-body cueing, and the tall and elegant posture.  In fact, I now think that Pilates and Tango are one and the same thing, for they share the very same principles. This was a surprise to me and I just wanted to share with you today. Thank you.

MESSAGES TO TAMARA
Tango Pilates workout

Hello everybody and greetings from the best Pilates Studio in the world. Yes. We are talking about the Tamara Di Tella Pilates Studio. My friends and I were old clients of this Studio and when the instructor told us about Tangolates we thought is was great and wanted to try. Little did we know that, what appeared to be just fun and only fun, would turn out to be a fantastic, most demanding type of Pilates exercises. The first class I  almost died! When I asked, I was told that I had just done Julio Bocca’s exercises, I mean the same exercises he performed. I could not believe it! That’s why I was so exhausted! But, gradually, I got used to them and now, I still feel the workout, but it is not as strenuous as it was in the beginning. All in all, I am very happy because I feel that I am now working hard!

MESSAGES TO TAMARA
I partnered with my daughter!

This is a message to Tamara Di Tella and I hope she gets it. I just wanted to let her know that I find her Tango Pilates Method a great innovation and a superb form of Pilates exercises. I though I had seen it all, and I was convinced that Pilates was it, a mean after it, nothing coud be better. I was so in loved with Pilates, that when I heard about the new Method I was reluctant to try. What could be better?, I thought.  Now, I see that Pilates is great but that Tangolates or Tango Pilates or whatever really one ups it. The cardio addition makes it more flowing and more complete; and the partner style is really amusing. I now convinced my daughther to come to the Studio with me and for partner Tangolates classes. She loves it too! Now, I not only have my Pilates, but also have a great time to share with my daughter. Thank you, Tamara, you are a genious!!

I can do it!

Hello, everybody! My name is Rita and I am 53 years old. I write to tell you that you guys restore my confidence again! I had just given up altogether the capacity or will to go to a gym. I was putting on weight like nobody’s business and felt pretty miserable about it. Until, one day, I discovered Tamara Di Tella Tangolates. I thought it was a special kind of Pilates, so I did not want to go, but finally, after a few months, I decided to give it a try and made an appointment for a trial class. To my surprise, I mean, to my big surprise, I loved it. Not only that, but I was very good at it. Apparently I discovered that I coordinate well and that the core concentration of Tangolates comes natural to me. Hey…what do you know! Now, some 30 pound thinner, I never miss a class. I do a bit of classic Pilates first and then jump into de Tango Pilates routines. I just wanted to share with you, my new happy and slimmer self!

Greeting from Greece!

Tamara, I had a fiend who just came back from Buenos Aires!. She told me that she went to your Studio there and asked for the Tangolates class. T her surprise, they told her that there were very few classes available because most clients in Buenos Aires do classical Pilates. Amazing…Here, we all prefer Tangolates over Pilates.   Are argentine women are so different from European women?

MESSAGES TO TAMARA

Hello, Tamara, my name is Myriam.  I wanted to tell you how happy I am with your Tangolates class. Actually, we call it the Tamara class, because it is shorter and easier to pronounce. Anyway, we (all of us in the class) love it! It feels like a harder and more challenging Pilates, for the things we do are the same, but the rhythm is more demanding. You have to follow the step not to lose the choreography and that keep us on our toes!. We are about 12 in our class and we are all happy with it!! Thank you.

Hello, Tamara. I am Carolina and I attend Tangolates classes at your Recoleta’s Studio. I wanted to tell you that I like it, above all, because it is so much fun! You see… I really liked Pilates, but, alas, I must admit I was a bit bored: always the same! Always the same!

With Tangolates, on the other hand, we have much more variation more rhythm, a more dynamic class and, well…you know…he music!

TAMARA DI TELLA TANGO PILATES CLASS VARIATIONS

At TAMARA DI TELLA TANGOLATES (Tango Pilates) personal training studio in Texas, United States, the Studio offers its clients a flexible arrangement as far as purchasing sessions. “Clients obtain contracts of four, eight or 12 sessions (with a pre-agreed expiration date),” she says. “Each time they have a session, we sign off a session. And this is done even on a monthly basis. We have a Free Pass, and, yet, a pre-arranged expiration date is necessary to guarantee an excellent attention to both parts, instructors and clients. The same applies to group classes (groups of friends who come to take Tangolates classes together. Workout Structures
How do trainers arrange exercises for a partner training session? Here are some protocols that are commonly utilized.

Supersets. In partner training, it is advisable to alternate cardio intervals and strength sets. Also it is possible to mix in some flexibility, for variation sake.

    * Two clients are on a cardio T-DITELLA Apparatus routine; while two others are on choreographies, and then the pairs switch places. This way it is more entertaining and less monotonous class.

    * Partners perform three to four exercises that form choreographies (depending how many are in the group), and then switch to stretching on mat. Then, they alternate again. This is another way to break the monotony of a class.

* Partner Exercises. Sometimes, when partner training will get the two clients to work together, perhaps using each other's body weight. This is an advanced type of exercise for clients who are well versed.  ( next coming “colgadas”). “Otherwise,” you can have one couple do an active recovery or some mobility work on their own while the other couple is performing a strength exercise.”

* Same Exercises at the Same Time but with a different order. Clients can also perform exactly the same exercises at the same time, as in a toning class, but change the order: first goes number one; next number two, and then number three; while, the other couple starts off with exercise number three, then goes to number one, and finally to number two.

IMPORTANT: There are many variations and options to keep to your Tangolates class varied and surprise your clients each time!

Client Partnerships
Owners and trainers are trying to establish client partnerships in order to fit the clientele in a reduced space facility.   Creating Small Groups, Depending on need. If clients want to take a Tamara Di Tella Tangolates class but can’t do it when it is offered, they can ask for it to be repeated at a better time. “If a client knows another person, perhaps a sister or a friend or her mother, they register for a class together” Tamara’s manager says. “If not, we will advertise the program to the other members in order to get another person to sign up.”

Tamara Di Tella Tango Pilates Classes
Let’s think back. Traditional pilates classes usually involved: a) one-to-one (individual or super VIP clases); or b) small-group classes of three to six clients with one instructor; or c) large classes of 6 or more clients, sometimes up ten or even or twelve, but these classes were reserved for mat, never reformer.

Partner classes now constitute a viable business model and revenue stream. While the logistics are the same as individual classes, business owners, trainers and clients alike are reaping rewards from partner and group training.
While in Tamara Di Tella method (Tangolates or Tango Pilates), classes are naturally and obviously for two clients (it takes two to Tangolates!).
